Arts Centre, Devizes Road, Swindon SN1 4BJ
Tel: 01793 524481
12.30pm ~ 11th May ~ £8 (£7)

Most of us live thinking we have all the time in the world.
But there is a point when we may know that time is running out.
At that moment, a life that may already be wonderful becomes extra-precious.
When everything you have been and done and meant to the world is being taken from you, then human connections are the main medicine.
Former TV journalist who retrained as a medic, Dr Rachel Clarke, is the author of best-selling Your Life in My Hands. Her latest book is Dear Life – a doctor’s story of love and loss.
Rachel will be in conversation with Dr Natasha Wiggins, a palliative medicine consultant at Swindon’s Great Western Hospital.

Literature takes us to the heart of life.

JIM AL-KHALILI - on The World According to Physics.

Arts Centre, Devizes Road, Swindon SN1 4BJ
Tel: 01793 524481
6.30pm ~ 11th May ~ £9 (£8)

Are we approaching the end of physics? Is the next step a theory of everything? Are physicists stuck in a rut waiting for the next Einstein to come along? Any other questions?
There is still much that we do not understand, from the origin of space and the meaning of time to what is really lurking behind the quantum curtain.
In his latest book, author, broadcaster, and TV presenter Jim Al-Khalili does not shy away from problems in physics while pointing out that science, and physics in particular, offers us the only way we currently know to uncover the deepest truth about the nature of reality.

STEVE JONES – on how our sun heals us, kills us, and makes us what we are.

Arts Centre, Devizes Road, Swindon SN1 4BJ
Tel: 01793 524481
8pm ~ 11th May ~ £8 (£7)

Life on Earth is ruled by our nearest star, our sun. It drives our weather, forms our landscape, helps feed us, but sometimes destroys life too. It also makes chemicals in the skin that cheer up those who bask in its rays, and for the ancients, our sun was the seat of divine authority.
Given the role of the sun’s rays in health, in happiness, in food, in water, in the shape of the world around us, and in our very existence, its behaviour in the next few decades should become a topic of almost as much interest to men and women as it has long been to snails.
Broadcaster, writer, and Emeritus Professor of Human Genetics at University College London, Steve Jones is the author of Here Comes the Sun.
